IO PRODUCTIONS SIGNS WITH RESEARCH VIDEO

Between 1984 and 1989, IO productions created Musicalifornia for French TV. The program offered an up-close, uncensored look at the American rock scene of this period in all its spontaneous vitality, charged with an excitement that has rarely been translated succesfully to the small screen. Filmed on-location in and around Los Angeles' hottest rock spots, Musicalifornia is a comprehensive look at the underground music world of the day, it's heroes and soon-to-be stars, such as Jane's Addiction, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Violent Femmes, Black Flag with Henry Rollins, The Minutemen, The Bangles, Meat Puppets, Fishbone, Redd Kross, Husker Du, Oingo Boingo and many more. These bands of enduring popularity were captured at the peak of their powers, performing in the environment from which they first came to prominence; clubs like The Palace, Club Lingerie, The Music Machine, Al's Bar, The Roxy & Anti-Club. What makes this show even more special are the candid, off-the-wall interviews with the charismatic stars like David Lee Roth, The Ramones, Chris Isaak, Eddie Money, KD Lang, Jonathan Richman & Perry Farrell. Furthermore, Musicalifornia featured informative and provocative news and lifestyle segments on such topics as skateboarding, independent record labels, the cow-punk phenomenon, breakdancing and the East L.A. Latino rock underground. We are very proud to announce that Musicalifornia is now available for licensing through Research Video.
